You Must Have A Purpose To Be Happy

The presence of a goal or purpose is a common theme among well-adjusted individuals, while those who are restless tend to lack direction or purpose. The lack of a clear goal can leave them feeling adrift and unaware, gradually losing a sense of fulfillment. Even if they have achievements and outwardly appear successful, there remains a lingering feeling that something vital is missing. Humans are inherently designed for purpose and adventure, yet societal programming often fosters a disposition toward mediocrity and safety.

It is important for individuals to actively seek and define their own goals and purposes in order to experience a sense of fulfillment and avoid feeling adrift. Society's emphasis on mediocrity and safety can hinder individuals from tapping into their inherent desire for purpose and adventure.

I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.

Finding Your Purpose

You would not have a gadget in your house for ten minutes without asking, “What is this for?” And so it is with life. Man must have a purpose. Many people decide this before they decide anything else. Many others just go about living. The ultimate well-ordered purpose of man is to be happy.

What man wants as his final goal is LIFE; not a life for just five more minutes, but an enduring life. He wants TRUTH, not the truth of geography to the exclusion of science, but ALL truth. He wants LOVE, not a mere fleeting emotion, but enduring ecstatic love.

This is the natural goal of human beings.

Perfect LIFE, TRUTH, and LOVE define what we call GOD. In other words, in seeking happiness, man is really seeking God.

There is a philosophical principle that the first in intention is the last in execution. Suppose you intend to drive to Los Angeles from Las Vegas. That’s first in your intent, but it's the last place you get. Before going to LA, you must go through Primm, Baker, and Barstow.

So too, a happy person decides first what is their ULTIMATE goal in life.

Meditation:

Do I recognize that God is my ultimate goal and purpose? Is my journey moving me closer or further away from this end?

“Because you have made us for Yourself, our hearts are restless till they find their rest in Thee.“ Saint Augustine

Finding purpose can take some effort, but the reward is a fulfilling life that consists of true happiness.
